Little Victories

After more than a month of being unable to concentrate long enough to read anything beyond a takeout menu—and watching my stacks of The New York Times and The New Yorker grow to heights that might best be measured in elevations—I have succeeded in reading the paper cover to cover for the last three days in a row and am within striking distance of finishing a double issue of The New Yorker.

It may not last, and it will almost certainly be interrupted during the 2-4 days of intense fog that I expect to recur after each of the remaining four sessions of chemo, but it is a very welcome development. Now if I could only read an actual book. . . .

Meanwhile, on the food front, I seem to have shed the layer of paste that had taken up residence on my tongue, and my digestive tract has rediscovered its nerve. I have no illusions here: this is just the good part of the cycle, and the bad part will come around again (and again and again and again). But at least it is a cycle and not a one-way progression from good to bad to horrendous, which it certainly might have been.

And did I mention that lovely Week 3 begins tomorrow? And that Zach and I are headed up to Phoenicia for the weekend?

And may I say: Yippee!

Hey Jody!

May the luck of the Irish be with you as you start week 3 on the 3rd Friday of the 3rd month of a year that divides nicely into 3 (well, only if you think the way my wacko brain works -- 2006 -- 6 divided by 2 is 3 -- get is?).

I just got caught up on 3 weeks of posts. I feel like we just had a long chat -- what an awesome blog! I've been somewhat off the planet (again) the past couple of month, taking care of my mom (who learned last month she's got stomach cancer, so we're about to embark on the whole surgery, chemo, radiation, chemo thing) and my step-daughters (whose mom has been hospitalized for depression 3 times since New Years). In happier news, I'm on the verge of accepting a new job. Details at 11. Stay tuned.

Have a great weekend! I'm so glad you're finally getting away.

Cheers,
Gerri

P.S. I want Zach's bagel recipe.

Congrats (!!!) Jody on entering Session 3 and for being able to go upstate.

I am off to San Diego on Monday and start rehearsals for "Trying" on Tuesday...am back in town May 22 and looking forward to movie nights! I don't know what my computer access will be while away, so I apologize now if I'm kinda scarce for the next few months.

Thinking of you and will be sending prayers out!

xoxo,
christine

Heck, I usually can't get through a whole newspaper or New Yorker in the best of times--just too slow a reader. I envy you for being able to do it as often as you do!

Phonoecia! Ed and I are longing to get up there. Probably not til fall, though, but hey-- leaf peeping! And then you two will be ready to come to San Diego, n'est ce pas?
