That's a Wrap

Rose has no plans to update via blog, asking you to call her instead. And she will certainly be more up to date than I will on her condition, so.... call her! :)

Over and out.

Apologies

I have been dealing with a separate family emergency, and have been away from internet for a few days.

In brief: Rose came home yesterday, slept in her OWN BED last night, is very glad to be out of rehab. She will continue with physical therapy and the like a few days a week, but is already tearing around her apartment with her walker.

You can reach her on her cell phone. I will continue to post updates, but they will be infrequent for a while longer.....

Breakfast

  • croissants with whipped butter and swiss apricot preserves
  • orange juice, "lots of pulp"
  • thick-sliced sunday bacon
  • fresh strawberries with sour cream
  • starbucks coffee
  • the Sunday Times
  • a pot of bright yellow mums
... and lots of lively conversation. It was a luxurious morning.

And in her PT prior to breakfast, Rose tackled "getting into the shower" for the first time. Her progress is "very good" according her daily evaluations, and she's still on target to go home this coming week, as early as Tuesday, but certainly no later than Thursday.

Yowza!

Mystery Solved

Saw Rose twice today, and she's really starting to come back. She had lots of PT, some of which I witnessed. Walking in a stragiht line with a walker, turning, practicing taking a step up and down, lots of muscle exercises, etc. She's not enamored of the hospital food, but gosh, that's a shocker, because which of us doesn't love hospital food? ;P

She is now open to seeing visitors. Later in the day is better (like after 3pm), as she has a lot on her schedule earlier in the day (meals, doctors, PT). She's also ready to talk to people if folks feel like calling her. Use her cell phone number (which I won't post here...email me if you don't have it).

Our best guess for her return home is late next week.

Oh, and it's the RIGHT hip, FYI.

Why No Updates?

Because I've been unable to speak to Rose for the last day and a half. She's pretty busy with therapy, and when she's not busy, she's sleeping!

I did get some info through Torre: Rose was moved into rehab Thursday night. She's still very worn out, but they are continuing with a vigorous schedule of PT and OT.

I will be down in Baltimore for much of the weekend, so I should have a better update sometime tonight.

Proceeding Nicely

Rose is still in a fair amount of pain, but it's getting better. She had more PT and OT today.

And the best news is, it looks like she may be headed to rehab later this evening.

She's worn out, but happy, and loves her floor nurses. I have passed along all comments from well-wishers.

I also just now realized I don't know which hip it is. We'll try to get that nailed down later....

Off to the Races

Catching up on yesterday:

Rosemary had PT and OT early in the day as planned. There were some of the typical scheduling glitches (breakfast arrived just as she was about to go to PT), but mostly all was good. She's in a fair amount of pain still, and has lost a lot of strength in her legs. Exercises she was doing before the surgery (such as leg lifts) are far more difficult now.

Her voice is also somewhat scratchy, and throat somewhat sore, from having been intubated during surgery. This means it's not that easy for her to talk, so not a lot of phone calls just yet.

Despite all this, she has made very good progress, and the Powers That Be were cautiously optimistic that she'd be headed to rehab as early as today.

Greetings

Hello folks.

I've started this blog to keep people up-to-date on Rosemary's recover from hip surgery. This way you won't get a bunch of emails from me clogging up your INBOX every day.

You can check back as often as you like, and can even subscribe to our feed to see when there's news.

You can leave comments and good wishes! Rose will be able to read them! (Eventually, when she has computer access at home).

And, if all goes well, perhaps Rosemary will author some posts herself when she's feeling better. We shall see.

Please feel free to share this blog with anyone who might want to check in on Rose's condition. And feel free to leave me any feedback in the comments as to how the blog might be improved.

Cheers,

Zachary
